The first face is promo art from New Super Mario Bros for the Wii, so is about seven years old. The second is from the Mario run advertising, so is a really new render. Things to note are that his face has gotten bigger and fuller, with his cheeks and moustache becoming more prominent. His eyes have gotten larger,detailed and deeper in colour, with his eyebrows being pushed up underneath his hat to make room. His skin has also gotten darker, and his hair colour has changed.
